Last Friday, being the 10th of September, I had a doctor’s appointment and decided to take the day off - seeing as it is just easier that way. So to pass the time I went on a trek into downtown LA.
First stop - MOCA

Got to check out Arshile Gorky’s work. I personally found his sketches and his explorations in line design more interesting than his final pieces. Something about the primary colors didn’t strike a cord with me. Though there were a few final pieces that had variations, like his wedding pieces - those were interesting to study. I totally used my student card too. Discount!
After MOCA I wandered to the LA public library. I’m going to try to make a habit of going there biweekly for books. I can’t afford my ridiculous obsession with books and it’s making me antsy lately - so the library will do. It’s just weird. I’m use to shiny new books at B&N and the smell of new book. Library’s just smell like ..well.. old paper and old person. I didn’t end up renting anything though - I had my heart set on one book and they didn’t have it.
So, my journey resumed as I trudged over to Metropolis Books. Let me just say it is an amazing bookstore. And there’s a huge selection - which you wouldn’t think they would have considering how small the storefront is. There, I found my book - Eat, Pray, Love. So far, it’s a good book. Definitely a moderate page turner. The way it’s broken up you can easily read a quick section and put it down.
After Metropolis I went in search of a japanese garden in little tokyo. I found it and I had it ALL to myself. It was amazing.
Soooo pretty. And just listening to the sounds - the leaves rustling, the water over rocks. The occasionally screeching of tires… Aside from the tires it was awesome. After a walk through I went to the other side of the street which had a bunch of little japanese stores. There was a market, numerous random stores, sushi, etc. I even helped a lady cross the street. She was very nice, but didn’t understand why I was wandering around so much without a purpose. Oh well.
After that refreshing cultural experience I headed for the famed Angel’s knoll. If you don’t know what Angel’s Knoll is the following will jog your memory:
Mmmmhm. It was pretty and nice. A good place to do some thinking. And strangely, right next to the metro stop I use. There’s also an open air market across the street - good for a quick lunch and ridiculously cheap fruit.
While at Angel’s Knoll I met up with a friend and we meandered our way over to the Nickel Diner. I had an amazing pulled pork sandwich, a root beer and a side salad with lemon vinaigrette? I think. I forget the dressing, but regardless, it was an awesome dinner.
And that basically summed up my Friday.
Saturday was a chick day, hung out with Tally. Made poison apple cupcakes (spice cake mix, caramel topping, green apples in the batter and on top.)
And no milk this time. They were amazing. (we made this last year and somehow Tally thought milk went into them. lol)
And we watch Vampire Diaries, followed by Youth in Revolt. And I tried Popeyes for the first time. Oh my god the tenders taste just like Tully’s tenders in ‘cuse. This does not bode well for my diet.
After the entertainment we sat around - talked girl stuff - periods, boys, etc. It was a lovely afternoon of estrogen.
Sunday. I did nothing. And I liked it. I read a bit. And chatted with a few friends, that was about it though. OO and I did laundry.
So concludes another weekend. A productive one for a change. Huzzah.
Next weekend, I’m going to try to hike (runyon most likely) and possibly check out the Getty Villa in Malibu.
I just dropped a monster, meteor sized hard drive on my toe. Which is clad in a sexy black peep toe pump.
This is a completely different breed of pain.
